| New sewerage puts Behala residents in a fix |
Apparently, an underground sewerage, being built with funds from the Asian Development Bank, residents say, has become the bane for Behala (Kolkata). According to them, the open drains in the area and the non-dredged canal, Monikhali khal, are being choked with soil dug up for construction work. This results in the backflow of water and accounts for the severe waterlogging in the area. The Monikhali canal is where most of the excess water in the area in drained. Due to lack of dredging activities, the bed has risen and water is forced back. |
